Weak stomach does not mean it gets floppy or swishes around you without rhyme or reason. It means that it does not produce adequate stomach acid and this can lead to bloating.
Bloating can start in the stomach
Stomach acid breaks down food and tells other organs to prepare for digestion. With low stomach acid food cannot be fully digested. Undigested food is NOT absorbed and food remnants are broken down by microbes in the intestines instead. This causes chronic bloating. How to test for stomach acid
There are a few home testing methods to check for stomach acidity. They are somehow crude yet still can shed some light on how your digestion functions. Do not be surprised that you can have low stomach acid yet suffer from heartburn. Heartburn is not an indication that you have lots of acid. It is only an indication that there is a problem with stomach lining, possibly due to high, low or wrong timing of acid production. Below are two common methods for stomach acid testing.
a) Lemon test:
Squeeze ½ lemon in ½ glass of warm water. Drink after a meal. If your digestion improves eg. there is less heartburn, less belching, or less bloating it means your stomach does not produce enough acid. If there is more pain with lemon juice it means there may be too much acid, irritated stomach lining, or you have allergy to citrus.
b) Stomach acid test:
Get a few capsules of pure stomach acid from a health food store. Make sure it is only 100% Betaine HCl. Try one capsule with a meal. If one capsule is not enough to see any improvement or worsening of your digestion try two, and then even three capsules. Interpret the results the same as with the lemon test. If the digestion improves you likely do not produce enough acid. If the result causes worsening of your symptoms you need to test your digestive tract in a different way, because there may be a different reason for your bloat, heartburn, or indigestion. Once you have determined that you have low stomach acid use lemon juice or betaine HCl with your meals for a few weeks. If low stomach acid is the cause for your bloat then you should see a major difference in a short time, so test, try, and enjoy your new flatten belly.
